Compounding Pharmacist

Position Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $65-$73 DOE
Job Summary: The compounding pharmacist customizes prescription medications to meet specific patient needs.  

Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability
  • Perform final verification of nonsterile and sterile compounded preparations
  • Check all prescriptions for accuracy and appropriate labeling prior to leaving the pharmacy (this final check is noted by placing pharmacist initials in corner of prescription label)
  • Maintain compounding competency for nonsterile non-hazardous, nonsterile hazardous, and sterile non-hazardous compounding as outlined in Koru Pharmacy’s SOPs
  • Create new master formula records
  • Review and update master formula records as needed
  • Provide information and consultation regarding drug usage, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage
  • Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventories, control records for narcotics or controlled drugs
  • Maintain proper inventory levels and accurate records; participate as directed in inventory of  controlled schedule drugs including regular counts of schedule II substances
  • Serve as a medical team consultant to providers; advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications
  • Specialize in specific drug therapy areas, such as hormone replacement therapy or functional medicine
  • Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal
  • Resolve medication discrepancies and errors
  • Develop, coach, counsel and direct pharmacy personnel as directed by Pharmacist in Charge
  • Uphold pharmacy security, safety and standards of practice
  • Monitor cleanliness of pharmacy and professional appearance of employees
  • Respond to customer concerns, questions and problems using problem solving skills, tact, and discretion
  • Participate in performance evaluation and responds positively to Pharmacist in Charge feedback for direction and goal-setting
  • Verify all clinical and compounding decisions; verify any suggestions by non-pharmacist personnel
  • Supervise activities of Technicians, Assistants and Interns
  • Provide and ensure prompt and courteous customer service
  • Follow local, state and federal laws regarding the profession of pharmacy practice

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Medicine – Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Mathematics – Knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations 
  • Chemistry – Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • English language proficiency
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science 
  • Licensed Pharmacist in good standing, free of Federal Government sanctions
  • Up to date on HIPAA and Fraud, Waste and Abuse Training and Continuing Education requirements

Compounding Pharmacist Technician

Position Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $20-$32 DOE
Job Summary:
The Compounding Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing customized medications by accurately measuring, mixing, and labeling pharmaceutical ingredients. This role requires adherence to strict protocols, regulatory standards, and quality assurance procedures to ensure patient safety and product accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Compound medications (non-sterile and/or sterile) according to physician prescriptions and established formulas.
  • Accurately measure, mix, and label ingredients following compounding SOPs and USP <795>, <797>, or <800> guidelines as applicable.
  • Maintain nonsterile compounding competency as outlined in Koru Pharmacy’s SOP. 
  • Maintain sterile compounding competency, if applicable, as outlined in Koru Pharmacy’s SOP.
  • Maintain clean and organized compounding areas, ensuring compliance with safety and infection control procedures.
  • Prepare and document batch records, ingredient logs, and cleaning records with high attention to detail.
  • Verify prescription information, ingredients, and final preparations under pharmacist supervision.
  • Use balances, mortars, pestles, and other compounding equipment appropriately.
  • Uses pharmacy compliance software as assigned for documenting environmental monitoring, documenting shift tasks, documenting maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of equipment, and completing competency exams.  
  • Manage and track inventory of compounding ingredients, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in regular quality assurance activities and audits.
  • Assist with general pharmacy operations as needed, including customer service, restocking, and order processing.
  • Assist in dispensing prescription medications – compounding, packaging, labeling. All prescriptions to be inspected and verified by a pharmacist prior to dispensing to the patient. 
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  • Selecting and taking from shelves the prescription medicine to be used in filling a prescription as long as a protocol exists that final preparation is checked by pharmacist before medicine is dispensed to end-user.
  • Efficiently interact with computers – Using computers and computer systems to enter data, record patient and medication information, perform billing functions, or process prescriptions.
  • Exercise discretion and confidentiality with all employees and patient information
  • Follow local, state and federal laws regarding the profession of pharmacy practice

  • Clerical- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and working knowledge of pharmacy software and other systems such as word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures and medical terminology
  • Sales and Marketing – Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services 
  • Oral Comprehension – The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Oral Expression/Speech – The ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and effectively
  • Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • English language proficiency 
  • Washington State Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Licensed Technician in good standing, free of State or Federal Government sanctions.  
  • Up to date on HIPAA and Fraud, Waste and Abuse Training and Continuing Education requirements.

Pharmacy Assistant

Position Type: Full Time
Salary Range: $18-$22 DOE

What You’ll Do

  • Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful service
  • Operate the cash register and process payments accurately
  • Answer phones and assist with basic customer questions
  • Help customers find OTC products and front-end items
  • Restock shelves and maintain attractive store displays
  • Keep checkout and waiting areas clean and organized
  • Support pharmacy staff with general daily tasks

Pharmacist Intern

Position Type: Part-Time (Flexible)
Start Date: Open Until Filled

Qualifications

  • Assist pharmacists with dispensing, verification preparation, and patient counseling under supervision
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and healthcare providers
  • Support medication therapy management, immunizations, and point-of-care services
  • Perform prescription data entry and help maintain accurate patient records
  • Help maintain inventory, ordering, and workflow efficiency
  • Follow all federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited PharmD program – years P1 or P2
  • Active Idaho pharmacist intern license (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for community pharmacy and patient-centered care
